The Best Blackberry Lemonade Recipe

Build a better blackberry lemonade!

I absolutely love lemonade. It’s a staple beverage during the summer. But those powdered lemonades leave a lot to be desired as far as ingredients, taste and, let’s be honest, after-taste. Last summer, the fast food chain Wendy’s had an awesome blackberry lemonade that I craved daily. The problem was I had to drive 30 minutes to get one. (Ah, the joys of living in the country!) Not to mention the hefty $4 per glass price tag.

Blackberry lemonade set up: blackberries, lemons, knife, cutting board, citrus press and pitcherI knew I could do better. So I got to work in the kitchen.

When I’m buying lemons for lemonade, I like ones that aren’t super firm. It makes them easier to press and I think they are juicier. For 2 quarts of lemonade, you’ll need 5-6 lemons, a 1/2 pint of blackberries (washed), 2 cups of sugar and some water. Blackberries and lemons

Slice those lemons in half and press all the juice out. We need 1 1/2 cups of lemon juice- minus any seeds, of course. Add that to the pitcher.

Next, put the blackberries in the Manual Food Processor and process them down to something resembling a sauce consistency. Then blackberry lemonade- processed blackberriesadd it to the pitcher. You’re almost done!

Time for the water and sugar. Since the blackberries are bitter along with the lemons, we glass of blackberry lemonadeneed to add a little more sugar than usual. Here’s a tip: heat up 6 cups of water and then add 2 cups of sugar. This helps the sugar melt into the water more efficiently. Add more sugar if you like it sweeter. I enjoy my lemonade with a little tang to it. Add ice and enjoy!!

Tip: Process the leftover berries and put them over vanilla ice cream! You’re welcome. 🙂
